ALTO —

While the Alto Lady Jackets were taking on Pollok Central, a state-ranked Class 3A team, Tuesday evening in a warm-up scrimmage, the new Texas Girls Coaches Association Class A softball team was released.

In that newly minted poll, the Lady Jackets took command of the No. 1 spot for the first time this season.

Alto (20-3), the undefeated District 21-A champions, displaced Beckville (29-2) from the top spot.

The Lady Jackets received a first round bye after taking the league title and will open the playoffs next week against an opponent to be determined.

Each of Alto's losses came against playoff-bound teams, Groveton, Pollok Central and Class 4A Jacksonville.

The Alto ladies have turned to Madison Crisp to carry the bulk of the load in the circle, but numerous Lady Jackets have proven themselves as players of impact on offense in any given game.

That group features, Alyssa Duplichain, Hannah Watson, Carenza Johnson, Damiyana Moore and Pam Arroyo.

Many of the Lady Jackets have played together practically year-round on various travel teams and select squads since they were 10 years old, with that vast amount of experience and familiarity with one another starting to pay big dividends..

Luke Balkom serves as the Lady Jackets' head coach.
