In a game that lived up to its billing, Alto got a walk-off home run from Carenza Johnson in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip Cushing, 5-4, in a Monday matchup between District 21-A softball powers.
The Lady Jackets are now 11-3 overall, 3-0 in conference, and are ranked No. 5 in the most recent Texas Girls Coaches Associated Poll.
Alto led 3-0 after four complete, but Cushing plated a pair or runners in the top of the fifth to cut the Lady Jacket lead in half.
After Alto got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning, Cushing tied the scored by adding two runs in the top of the sixth frame.
That's exactly where things stood until Johnson's blast made winners out of the home team.
Pam Arroyo and Madison Crisp had a couple of hits for Alto.
Crisp also earned a complete-game win in the circle while striking out 11 of the Cushing batters that she faced.
Alexa Russo had two RBI for the Lady Jackets, who want play again until next Tuesday when they travel to Wells for a 4 p.m. tilt.
