Gabby Willis went 5 for 5, which included grinding out a pair of doubles to help fuel Rusk's Lady Eagles to an 8-2 win over Groesbeck in the District 19-3A opener.
The game took place Tuesday night in Groesbeck.
Willis, a senior, also drove in a pair of runs and scored twice.
Cheyanne Phillips also had a big night for the winners.
At the plate, Phillips collected three hits in four official trips.
In the circle, Phillips went the distance to pick up the win while allowing two (unearned) runs on six hits. She struck out seven Lady Goats (3-6-1, 0-1 19-3A) and walked three.
Other Lady Eagles turning in noteworthy efforts offensively were, Chelsie Daniels (2 for 4, triple and a RBI) and Kelsey Blankinship (2 for 3, 2 RBI).
The Lady Eagles who moved to 11-7, 1-0 with the win, also had a field day on the base paths where as a team they went 7 for 7 on stolen base attempts.
Willis had two swipes, while Daniels, Kara Hugghins, Cassie Fletcher, Kaitlyn Ballew and Rachel Miller picked up one apiece.
The Lady Eagles are at home this evening, where they will welcome Mexia for a 6 p.m. affair.
