Coaches usually are not big fans of surprises.

Jacksonville College head soccer coach Rafael Gonzalez receive a royal surprise — one like he has never experience before — on Tuesday when Daisy Sims of England scored an impressive five goals in the Lady Jaguars' 7-1 whitewash victory over Wiley College (NAIA, Division I) in the Lady Jags' final exhibition game of the season.

“We brought Daisy in as a midfielder or possibly to play defender,” Gonzalez said. “She scored on a corner kick early in the Wiley match and made it look so easy, so we decided to leave her up top and she added four more goals. I have never had that happen before...it was pretty impressive.”

Men: Wiley 2, Jacksonville College 0

An older and stronger group of Wiley Wildcats proved to be too much for the young Jaguars as Wiley blanked the JC guys, 2-0.

But that was not to say that Gonzalez didn't like what he saw from his men.

“Wiley had a very experienced bunch,” Gonzalez said. “Most were juniors or seniors and one of their guys was even 28-years-old, as I understand.

“I think the extra experience and power that their (Wiley) guys had was the difference. Our guys had good technique and played well, but Wiley was a stronger and the more physical team and that gave them the edge.”

Gonzalez said that he believes his Jags will be able to learn form the outing.

“The match was a good eye opener for us in many ways,” he said. “I have a lot of confidence in these guys and they are a good team.”

NOTE: The Lady Jags' home opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at the Bill McRae Soccer Complex, which is located southwest of the Curtis Carroll Fieldhouse near the corner of Washington and Pine Streets...At around 5:30 p.m. there will be a formal dedication ceremony for the facility...The Jags will lay their first home match at 6 p.m.on Aug. 31 against Richland College.
