To launch brand new athletic programs at the collegiate level it takes a vision, a great deal of hard work by many dedicated individuals and the financial support to turn dreams into reality.

Thursday night the Jacksonville College women's soccer team played the first match in the history of the school — a match that the Lady Jaguars won, 3-0 over Cedar Valley — and took part in the first r match that was staged on Bill McRae Field, the home of Jaguar and Lady Jaguar soccer.

Prior to the start of the match members of the McRae family, which included Mary McRae, Becky and David Hanna, Kim and Gary Childs, Tim McRae and Mitch McRae were recognized by Jacksonville College officials during the formal dedication ceremony of Bill McRae Field.

The generous financial support provided by the McRae family enabled Jacksonville College to complete its soccer pitch which included the addition of lights for the field.

The lighting installation process is in its final stages now, according to Lynn Nabi, Academic Dean at Jacksonville College.

“We are thankful for the blessing that we have received from the McRae family and I am proud to say from this day (Thursday) forward our soccer field will always be know as Bill McRae Field,” Nabi said.

To close the dedication ceremony, Tim McRae had the honors of kicking the first ever goal at Bill McRae Field when he punched the ball into the net (on the first try) with the ease of a champion.

Folks may not always remember Tim McRae's boot, but the memory of Bill McRae will live on for a long, long time to come at Jacksonville College.
