Live television to add to intensity of Indian, Wildcat rivalry

JACKSONVILLE —

The 77th meeting between rivals Jacksonville and Palestine will take place Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium and regardless of who wins, or by how much, the game will have significant historic meaning.

That's because for the first time in the 100-year history of Fight'n Indian football a Jacksonville game will be televised live.

KTXA (Dallas-Fort Worth) Channel 21 has selected the game as one of four Thursday night schoolboy tilts that it plans on televising, in addition to 10 games broadcast on Friday nights.

KTXA is the broadcast home of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Stars and can be seen locally by DISH Network and Direct-TV subscribers.

Jacksonville athletic director Chris Taber said that his team has been looking forward to getting to play on television for a long time now.

More than anything, it's a great opportunity for our kids,” he said. “Anytime that you can play on T.V. and recognize and promote our kids and our program, it's great.”

Jacksonville will bring an 0-1 record into the game after losing to Carthage on Friday. The Wildcats knocked off LaVega in Waco and are 1-0 for the new season.
