Lynch earns Player of the Week honors

Troup QB givers verbal commit to Baylor

TROUP —

It was a weekend of lows and a memorable high for Troup quarterback Blake Lynch.

First, the bad news.

Lynch suffered a significant wrist injury in the second half of the Tigers' 35-21 loss to Tatum Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

Things improved drastically for the junior signal caller Sunday evening when Lynch announced on his Twitter account that he had (verbally) committed to continue his academic and athletic career at Baylor University when his days at Troup are done.

Verbal commitments are non-binding.

Lynch also had NCAA Division I offers from Mississippi State, Texas Christian, Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Clemson.

Before exiting the game Friday Lynch rushed for 102 yards in 21 carries. He also went 6-17-0 fro 144 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

His scoring passes went to Hitachi Lydia (48 pass) and to Brandon Hearon (73 yards).

Lynch's efforts have earned him Daily Progress Player of the Week honors for Week 7.

Honorable Mention

Carter McCown, QB, Jacksonville — The Tribe's junior field general went 16-31-2 for 194 yards. He tossed a touchdown pass and ran for two more in Jacksonville's 70-21 loss to Whitehouse, the No. 3-ranked team in Class 4-A.

Jacob Dumesnil, DB, Brook Hill — Dumesnil had 11 tackles on the defensive side and returned a kick off 85 yards for a Guard touchdown in Brook Hill's 34-12 defeat at the hands of undefeated Dallas Christian.

Any Jacksonville Fightin' Indian football fans that have not taken note of the Tribe's new conference home — District 16-5A — will probably want to take a few minutes and get familiar with a league that has been labeled as perhaps “the deepest (Class 5A) district in the state” by at least one expert in such matters.
