A grueling week of practices at the Curtis Carroll Fieldhouse last week payed off for the Jacksonville College Lady Jaguars.

Coach Leasa Ailshie's ladies traveled to Carrollton this past weekend for the SAWBC Super Showcase and took on three formidable foes from NJCAA Region 5 in Weatherford College, Midland College and McLennan College in a set of pre-season scrimmages..

The Lady Jags did extremely well and returned home Saturday night with three victories.

Arguably, the Lady Jags' most impressive win came over Weatherford, 56-48. The Lady Coyotes have seven sophomores back off of last season's 25-6 team.

In other action, JC mauled Midland, 48-33.

Midland posted a 27-8 record in 2012-13 and returned four women off of that club.

After leading by as many as 20 points, the Lady Jags held on to clip McLennan, 45-36. The Highlassies went 16-15 a year ago.

“We played well and we didn't lose a single quarter,” Ailshie said. “After our first scrimmages last week we went back and watched a lot of film and made some adjustments during our practices and our girls worked hard at getting better. They bought in to what we were teaching and I think all their hard worked showed on Saturday.”

Ailshie said the Lady Jags were led by their four sophomores, Susan Agesen, Deva'Nyar Workman, Allison Moore and Yvonne Maosa.

“All of our returning sophomores really contributed and showed maturity as leaders and they have demanded a lot from our freshmen, which is always good to see,” Ailshie said.

Aiishie also seemed pleased with what she witnessed from her new cast members.

“Our freshmen didn't shy away from the challenge of playing three really talented basketball teams last week,” she said.

Ailshie said she is continuing to work on possibly lining up a couple of more practice games for her club before the season opener on Nov. 1 (vs. Southern-Shreveport in Panola Classic).
