What a difference a week makes.
The Alto Yellowjackets, ranked No. 8 in this week's Associated Press Class A poll, sent their fans home as happy campers Friday night after out scoring an upstart bunch of Groveton Indians, 47-27, at Yellowjacket Stadium.
The victory, which gave Alto a 1-1 record, was the first coaching victory for the Mean Sting's mentor, Paul Gould, who is a former Jacksonville Indian.
Alto took control of things in the opening half and enjoyed a 34-21 advantage at the break.
The teams swapped touchdowns for most of the final half before the 'Jackets added a fourth-quarter touchdown that pushed the Mean Sting's margin of victory up to an even 20 points.
The Indians fell to 0-2 following the defeat.
Alto will travel to state ranked Tenaha next week in a long-anticipated match-up of East Texas Class A powers.
