H.S. Volleyball: Lady Guard coast to 3 set win over First Baptist

BULLARD – The Brook Hill Lady Guard volleyball squad opened up their defense of the 2012 district title in TAPPS District 4 with a dominating three-game sweep over Dallas-First Baptist Academy, 25-19, 25-15, and 25-21, on Tuesday night at Herrington Sports Complex.

Lady Guard head coach, Joanna Rathbun joined in with seniors, Hayden Langemeier and Deserae Rowan, singing the national anthem.

The Lady Guard seniors and company then got busy right away and gave Brook Hill fans plenty to cheer about. The Brook Hill girls rattled off two service aces from four different players, and four aces from Anderson, and 13 aces overall to pace the sweep.

Langemeier orchestrated a five-point run in game one, and dominating sophomore Anderson reeled off a six-point service rally for the 25-19 win.

Senior, Lily Cool gave the Lady Guard a 8-1 cushion to start game two. Back-to-back aces from Anderson made it a ten-point advantage at 13-3. Brook Hill’s Charlie Niles stepped up to finish off game two with three of her six kills in the match.

The Lady Saints (1-7;0-1) held a brief lead in the final game, as four ties and five lead changes led to a 10-10 tie. Anderson, added on three more of her 10 kills, Niles chipped in a service ace and a kill, including Niles running the score to 23-20 with a six-point service rally.

As she had done earlier in the second game, Morgan Magourik came in to serve out the wins after prominent, winning service runs in all three games. Magourik, Langemeier, Miles, and Rowan each had two service aces.

Anderson led with 10 kills, four blocks, and four service aces. Niles was a force also with six kills, six digs, two blocks, and two aces. Lindsay Wheeler set up the offense with nine assists, and Langemeir made three kills and two blocks.

The win improved the Lady Guard to a (8-4; 1-0) record. Brook Hill will next travel to Richardson to play Canyon Creek on Thursday night at 6 p.m.

First Baptist will vie for a first district win, entertaining Dallas Lutheran on Thursday night, at 6 p.m.
