Farr dumps in 21; Jaguars butcher Brookhaven, 101-76

DALLAS — Jacksonville College extinguished a two-game losing streak on Saturday by throttling Brookhaven (NJCAA, Division III) 101-76 on final-day play in the Joe Huey-Richland College Classic.

The Jaguars, who stand at 7-3 on the year, lost a heart breaker, 90-88, on Friday against Clarendon College.

Brookhaven also owns an identical 7-3 worksheet.

“It was an ok weekend for us, I guess you could say,” JC head coach Jody Bailey said. “Brookhaven is a very good team that is well coached.”

JC led 42-20 at halftime before outscoring the Bears by 23 points in the final 20 minutes of play.

Bailey described his team's play as streaky in the game.

“We played pretty good for the first 13 minutes of the game, but in the final seven minutes of the first half we were inconsistent and we lost focus and concentration and we allowed them to come back,” he said. “We did a much better job for the entire second half and I think that it showed on the scoreboard.”

Bailey touched on the fact that the Jags made 28 steals and blocked 14 of the Bears' shots as being figures of interest for him.

JC also improved its shooting from the field and at the charity line.

“We shot 53.6-percent from the field which is pretty good,” Bailey said. “We got our free throws up to 61-percent (22-of-36), which still isn't great, but it's much better than we have been doing.”

Mitchell Farr, a transfer from NCAA-Division I Nebraska-Omaha, burned the nets for 21 points to pace the Jags — he also had four rebounds.

Derrick Modest, who is from the Dallas suburb of Garland, played well in his homecoming back to the Metroplex also.

He scored 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field while shagging eight boards.

Tyrell Springer (14 points, six steals, four assists), Davon Anderson (13 points, seven rebounds, five steals, four blocked shots) and C. J. Johnson (12 points, six caroms) were also players of impact for the winners.

Kennedy Eubanks just missed chalking up a double-double — he poured in 10 points to compliment his seven rebounds.

Eubanks also wound up with four assists and four blocked shots.
