The Jacksonville College women's basketball team split a pair of games in the Jacksonville College Classic over the weekend, trouncing the Stephen F. Austin club team, 95-39, on Friday night and dropping a 65-64 decision to McLennan Community College on Saturday.
The Lady Jags are 4-5 on the year.
The SFA club team was a last-minute replacement for Mountain View College of Dallas, who canceled late.
JC was looking to avenge a loss to the Highlassies from Waco earlier this month, but it just wasn't meant to be.
“We had them (McLennan) on the ropes and we let them back in,” JC head coach, Lynn Nabi, said. “We cut their lead to one and took what I felt was a good shot with 15 seconds to got and it just wouldn't fall in.”
The Highlassies, who had great difficulty in generating any offense in their loss to Paris Junior College on Friday evening, were in much better form against the Lady Jags as McLennan sank eight triples in the game.
By comparison, the Lady Jags drained just three shots from long distance.
JC led 32-30 at intermission in a game that featured seven lead changes.
The Lady Jags won the battle of the boards, out rebounding the Highlassies 45-41.
JC committed just 13 turnovers in the game and shot 71-percent (17-of-24) from the charity stripe.
Khadijah Carter scored 24 points and came away with eight boards to lead the Lady Jags. Carter, a freshman from Goodrich, leads JC in scoring and rebounding, averaging 21 points and 12 boards a night.
Susan Agesen just missed a double-double (13 points, nine rebounds) while Chelsea Rogers put in seven points to go along with eight boards.
Allison Moore also had a big night — 13 points and nine rebounds — with Jinaki Robinson pouring in nine points to compliment her three rebounds and three assists.
The JC ladies will travel to Hill College for a 7:30 p.m. tonight in the team's final contest of the week.
