CENTRAL HEIGHTS —
Mason Smith pitched a complete game victory as Jacksonville defeated Pollak Central 8-3 in the Central Heights Tournament late last week.
The Tribe (5-6) struggled defensively, which compromised their chances greatly overall — the Indians posted a 1-3 record in the tourney, after taking first place in the Chapel Hill Tournament last weekend.
Jacksonville lost to state-ranked Lufkin Hudson (17-2), Center (7-2) and to the host Blue Devils by a 7-2 score to close out play on Saturday.
Jacksonville head coach Mike Eckles stated that Tribe hurler Jeff Pryor pitched “an outstanding game” in the loss to Center and was victim of multiple infield mistakes.
Offensive players of impact for the Tribe last week were Brett Eckles (five hits), Dillon Rodriquez, Brayden Rawlinson, Smith and Garrett Bonner.
Jacksonville has an open date this evening, but will be back in action beginning on Thursday when the Tribe are slated to participate in the Terrell Tournament.
