Jacksonville Jammers Dulcimer Club

TMRA II meet

An organizational meeting will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 21, at Lupe’s Mexican Restaurant. Purpose of the meeting is to form an East Texas Chapter of the Texas Motorcycle Rights Association (TMRA II). State officers Sputnik and Dee will be present. Early voting locations

Early voting for primary elections is Feb. 19-29 at the Jacksonville Senior Citizen's Center, 300 S. Bolton St., Jacksonville, the County Clerk's Office at the Cherokee County Courthouse in Rusk and at the A. Frank Smith United Methodist Church, 103 Cooper St, Alto. Also, early voting will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23 and from 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 24.



Black History program

Seminary Heights Church of Christ would like to invite the community to the annual Black History program at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28, at the church, 1208 Arnold St., Jacksonville. This year’s theme is “You’ve Been Spotted.” The event will also honor five local couples who have been married for more than 50 years each — Emerson and Mattie Brown, Clifford and Mary Holman, George and Mary Thrikill, Willie and Bobby Taylor and Berry and Ruby Robinson. A Community Impact Service Award will also be given to Sarah Robinson, Asaree Ragsdale and Tyree Wells.

Healing room offered

River of Life Christian Church in Rusk has recently opened a Healing Room in which they offer prayer free of charge to anyone in need of healing. Driver’s Safety course

School board election notice

Monday, Feb. 11, is the first day to file an application to run for a seat on the Jacksonville Independent School District Board of Trustees. Place 3 and 4 are to be voted upon in the May 10, 2008 election. The application deadline is March 10..



Literacy Council English classes

The Jacksonville Literacy Council is offering at 10 a.m. each Friday at the Literary Council office, 215 E. Commerce St., Suite 215 A in Jacksonville. The class is open to any interested person and will teach basic speaking, reading and writing in English as well as citizenship participation. Archeological conference

The 2008 East Texas Archeological Conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Robert M. Muntz Library (Room 401) at the University of Texas at Tyler. This is the 15th meeting of this conference sponsored by the Texas Archeological Society – Region 4, the Friends of Northeast Texas Archeology, the Deep East Texas Archeological Society and other regional organizations. The conference brings together avocational and professional archeologists as well as the general public to discuss recent archeological discoveries and research in East Texas. Sam Terry cancer fund

The Sam Terry cancer fund has been established in Terry’s honor at Austin Bank. The money collected will be used to fund the medication and the transportation costs of cancer patients who need help getting to and from doctor appointments. Donations may be made at any branch of Austin Bank.



Donkey Basketball

Donkey Basketball is coming to Rusk High School 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at the RHS gym. This will be a Senior Finale fundraiser in conjunction with the Rusk State Hospital Employee Council. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Advance tickets are on sale now at Brookshire Bros.

JC Spanish classes

Beginning Spanish Conversation II will be offered as a continuing education course at Jacksonville College from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evenings, March 4 through April 8. The course is designed for individuals who want to continue to develop the communication skills they learned in Beginning Spanish Conversation I, or for those who already have an elementary background in Spanish. The textbook used in Spanish Conversation I will also be used for this course. The cost of the course is $75 for individuals who took the first course and already have the textbook, and $95 for everyone else. Students must register and pay for the course by 4:45 p.m. March 4.
