RUSK — A Rusk man remained in the Cherokee County Jail on Friday morning on a $250,000 bond.

Earnest Eugene Palmer, 61, faces one count of aggravated sexual assault of an elderly person. He was arrested Dec. 22, according to Rusk Police Department Chief Jamie Campbell.

"I don't think he's going anywhere," Campbell said referring to Palmer and his bond amount.

Campbell said the offense occurred at The Arbors Nursing Home on Loop 343 in Rusk.

"We are treating this as a single incident involving a patient," Campbell said.

The charge is a felony-one offense which carries strict punishment, if convicted.

According to the Texas Criminal Justice System website, the type of offense is punishable by up to 99 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

A representative at  The Arbors said Friday that Palmer has since been terminated from his position with the company.
