Officers quickly apprehend 2 suspects

JACKSONVILLE — One-minute-and-10-seconds after a burglary of a habitation call was reported to the Jacksonville Police Department on Monday, officers had stopped two suspects.

According to Sgt. Royce McCullough, a call was received seconds before 11:49 a.m. of two black men leaving the back of a Gillespie Street residence with items.

"When we got on the scene (at 11:50 a.m.), two black males matching the description the witness had given were walking south on Gillespie,"

McCullough said.

Officers David Gayler and Daniel Burrow detained the two suspects on Travis Street shortly afterwards when they ran from police.

An 18-year-old and a 24-year-old man, both of Jacksonville, were taken into custody, and charges of burglary of a habitation were pending Monday afternoon. McCullough said he could not release names until the charges were official.

Items taken from the home included tools, a laptop computer, pocket watches and a few other things, according to McCullough.
