Local fall festivities planned

A slew of activities are planned in Cherokee County through the end of the month as revelers prepare for Halloween.

The Alto Trailriders are hosting a haunted trailride through Oct. 31, with cost at $5 per rider. Participants will meet at the trailriders building. Rides will be held Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m.; Sunday, 4 to 10 p.m.; Monday and Tuesday, 6 to 10 p.m.; and from 5 to 11 p.m. on Halloween. Free candy will be available for children.

The East Side Baptist Church Fall Festival is from 3-5 p.m. Saturday and features games and treats. Cost of admission is one canned good per child.

Oakland Baptist Missionary Church will hold its Fall Festival Saturday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Festivities include hayrides and games, and hot dogs will be served.

Afton Grove Baptist Church, located at 360 CR 4208, Jacksonville, will host a free Harvest Fest from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, with games, food and an opportunity for Trunk or Treating.

Also on Saturday, Calvary Baptist Church's Harvest Fest will be held from 4-6 p.m. at 122 W Tena St., Jacksonville. The event features food, fun and games, as well as a chance to meet Jonah in the Whale, Paul and Silas, and many others.

Students from Jacksonville College will help host Boo at the Zoo, Saturday and Sunday at the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler.

Trick or Treat on the Square, Rusk's annual downtown Halloween event, begins at 4 p.m. Tuesday and ends when the candy runs out.

In Jacksonville, local merchants will take part in Street Sweets from 5-6 p.m. Halloween evening at the Norman Activity Center Parking Lot, 526 E. Commerce. Festivities are planned for youths ages up to 12, and the Fun Zone will have a controlled entrance and exist, providing a safe environment for trick-or-treaters. Admission is $1, a canned good or a bag of candy, which will be donated to H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Pursue Enrichment) and the Cherokee County Crisis Center.

Woodland Heights Baptist Church will host Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat festivities Halloween night from 6 - 8 p.m. Activities include a carnival, hayride, food, trunk or treat and much more.

Also on Halloween, Central Baptist Church will hold its annual Harvest Festival from 6-8 p.m. at 1909 East Rusk St. Games, food and fun for every member of the family will be featured, with an admission “fee” of  one non-perishable food item per person or one bag of individually wrapped candy per family. Goods will be donated to H.O.P.E. Family friendly costumes are welcome.
