Randy blazed the trail for the McCown brothers,  starting at QB for the Jacksonville Fightin’ Indians all three of his varsity seasons from 1992 thru 1994.  He led the Indians to their first playoff appearance and victory in 20 years during his sophomore season and as a senior, was a Concensus Texas Top 100 selection.

He finished his career at JHS as a two sport standout receiving All District, All East Texas Player of the Year, and All State honors, each in both football and basketball.

He attended Texas A&M University on a full football scholarship and graduated in December 1999, with a B.S. degree in Agriculture.  He started at quarterback during the 1997, 1998, and 1999 seasons, guiding the Fightin’ Texas Aggies to  bowl appearances in each of those seasons.  In addition, 1998 was the Aggies’ only BCS Bowl appearance and Big 12 Championship win to date.

In his senior season at Texas A&M, Randy was named the team’s Offensive MVP and the highlight of his career was his final game at Kyle Field which followed just days after the Aggie Bonfire tragedy.  Texas A&M sealed the win with just over five minutes left in the game when receiver Matt Bumgardner (Randy’s roommate) caught a 14 yard pass from Randy to give the Aggies a 20-16 win over the #5 Texas Longhorns.
