Weekend events scheduled in Jacksonville, Rusk

CHEROKEE COUNTY — The weekend kicks off with several events happening in and around the Jacksonville area.

– The annual Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Seed Swap begins at 9 a.m. today at the Cherokee County Extension Service office, 165 E. 6th St. in Rusk.

Numerous seeds, bulbs, chilled cuttings, rhizomes and corms available, said county horticultural agent Kim Benton.

“Even if you don't have seeds to swap, feel free to come down and talk to people who save their own seeds every year,” Benton said, adding invaluable information is shared among gardeners.

To learn more about the event, held until 1 p.m., contact the Cherokee County Extension office, 903-683-5416.

– A Daddy-Daughter Dance, held from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Nichols Intermediate School gym, will be hosted by the Cherokee Charmers. Cost is $5 per person, although the event is free for Lil Charmers. Photos will be available for purchase during the event.

– From 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Norman Activity Center in Jacksonville, a Cherokee County Go Texas Fundraiser is planned. Tickets must be purchased in advance by contacting Jennifer Lambright at (903) 286-0153.
