Area entities closed for holidays

JACKSONVILLE — Entities in Cherokee County have posted holiday schedules for the weeks of Christmas and New Years, according to officials.

Jacksonville city offices are closed on Christmas and New Year's Day, while those in Alto, Bullard and New Summerfield will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year's Day.

In Cuney, city offices will be closed for Christmas Dec. 25-27, as well as on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

In Rusk, city offices will close at noon today, and employees will be off Dec. 25-26, as well as Jan. 1.

Troup city offices are closed Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year's Day. Normal garbage pickup will be deferred by one day, and picked up Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, said city officials.

Wells – whose offices will close at noon today and reopen Dec. 26 – also will defer regular trash service by one day to Thursday, this week and next. In addition, city offices are closed Jan. 1.

Cherokee County offices are closed Dec. 24-26 and on New Year's Day.

Cherokee County Public Health – closed Dec. 23-27; reopen Dec. 30-31, then closed for New Year's on Jan 1-2. However, citizens with public health emergencies, complaints regarding food safety or similar issues will still be able to reach appropriate staff via 903-586-6191 and speaking with answering service, according to Public Health executive director Chris Taylor.

Libraries throughout the county also have posted holiday hours.

Jacksonville Public Library will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p. m. New Year's Eve, but is closed Christmas and New Year's Day.

Wells Rube Sessions Memorial Library will be closed Dec. 24-25, while Rusk Singletary Memorial Library is closed Dec. 25-26. Both libraries are closed Jan. 1.

The Bullard Community Library is closed Dec. 24 through the the end of the week, and will reopen Dec. 30 before closing for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

The Cameron-J. Jarvis Troup Municipal Library closed for renovation through Jan. 9.
