County observes Women’s Health Week

CHEROKEE COUNTY — Cherokee County Public Health (CCPHD) is celebrating National Women’s Health Week (NWHW) beginning May 12.

The agency has recently received new funding to expand women’s health services – including primary care, breast and cervical cancer screening, family life planning and other complimentary care services, in Cherokee County.

Often the center of our East Texas families, women sometimes put themselves last. But, Mom needs as much care as the rest of the family. Cherokee County Public Health encourages all the wives, daughters, moms, aunts, nieces and best friends to take time to do an at-home health assessment. If home-screening, such as a self-breast exam, reveal concerns, it’s time to visit with a healthcare provider. An annual check-up ensures that your body is performing at its best – letting you enjoy life, with less to worry about.

Men, you aren’t off the hook. You need care too. But the focus of this week is to ensure that you encourage the women in your life to take care of themselves. Let’s celebrate our wonderful East Texas women, by encouraging and empowering them to take control of their health and happiness.

CCPHD provides preventive and primary care services to area residents, who are income-eligible. To find out if you may qualify for care with us, call 903.586.6191.
