Jacksonville officials to begin summer mosquito spraying

JACKSONVILLE —  Finally, be sure to apply insect repellant when outdoors. The most common insect repellants on the market contain DEET, which is very effective. For those who do not want to use DEET, alternative repellants containing Picardin or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus have been shown scientifically to be about as effective as DEET.

All pesticide applications will be made in the evenings. City officials remind residents to keep pets and children indoors during times of expected spraying. Likewise, adults should also limit their exposure to airborne mosquito spray as much as possible.

Factors such as rain, evening temperatures below 55 degrees F, and winds in excess of 10 miles per hour will prohibit the city from spraying during some evenings. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
