2 men arrested after standoff in grocery store

ALTO — Two men were arrested early Wednesday morning after a standoff at the B&B Foods in Alto.

According to Alto Police Chief Jeremy Jackson, a person reported seeing two black males at the store just before 3 a.m. Wednesday.

When officers arrived, one of the suspects was found entering the back of the store through a cutout hole.

Once the officer was inside, the two suspects fled into the ceiling of the store, Jackson said.

While in the ceiling, one of the suspects called his girlfriend from a cell phone. The woman called the sheriff's office while on the phone with the suspect, because he said they wanted to

surrender.

After an two-and-half hour standoff, officers arrested LaJarrius Jackson, 26, of Oklahoma and Keithan Jackson, 28 of the Longview/Tyler area.

The men were booked into the Cherokee County Jail about 5:30 a.m., each charged with: engaging in organized criminal activity, evading arrest, criminal mischief, burglary of a building and false report to a peace officer.

A bag of prescription medicines from the store's pharmacy were recovered at the scene, Jackson said.

"There was quite a bit of damage, but we don't have a total just yet," Jackson said.

Jackson said officials were notified of an alarm at the store by the Brookshire Brothers corporate office in Lufkin. Officials from the sheriff's department, Alto Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the scene.
