If at first you can't secede, try, try again

Separatist group recruits local residents

TYLER — Representatives of a secessionist group with roots in the Republic of Texas separatist movement of the 1990s have invited Jacksonville residents to attend their meeting this Saturday.

That meeting takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday at Ryan's Restaurant, 5602 S Broadway Ave, in Tyler.

According to its website, the objective of the Texas National Movement, led by Daniel Miller, is “the complete, total and unencumbered political, cultural and economic independence of Texas.”

The Texas National Movement, despite its evolution from one of the old Republic of Texas factions from the late 1990s to early 2000s, continues to disassociate from the former ROT confrontational tactics, instead opting for more political solutions.

"Interest in our group has been explosive in the last several months fueled in part by Texans who have come to the realization that the federal government is irreparably broken, however we have members and support from folks in many other states and people from literally 'around the world,'" said  Jeff Sadighi, a communication officer for TNM.

Sadighi cited “The 'Obamacare' decision, the Keystone Pipeline decision, the 'Fast & Furious' scandal, and the lack of any willingness by the federal government to secure the Southern border of Texas” as the relevant contributing  factors to the group's growth.

“It seems the election results in November crystallized this realization in the minds of millions of Texans,” Sadighi said.

The leader of the group, Daniel Miller, did not return a request for comment Wednesday, nor did representative Tammy Blair.

But in their places Sadighi pointed out Miller (incorrectly listed on Wikipedia as “DENNIS Miller”) has appeared on 'Hannity':  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBCptNRyvjw, and was part of a separatistic requested to the White House, http://www.texasnationalist.com/index.php/info/news/featured/1910-tnms-official-response-to-white-house.
