Fire destroys ETMC storage building

JACKSONVILLE — A blaze destroyed a two-story storage building owned by East Texas Medical Center on Saturday night.

According to Jacksonville Fire Chief Paul White, the fire was reported about 9 p.m. at the corner of Bolton and Canada streets.

"When we got there, it was totally involved," White said.

"It was an old building, so it probably burned fast."

No injuries were reported in the fire, however an assisted living center next to the building was evacuated.

White said residents went to Bonner Place until the fire was extinguished.

"The smoke and fire was

headed right toward them (assisted living center). All my guys could really do was keep it from spreading," White said.

The fire did not spread to the center or other nearby residences, White added.

Heavy equipment from the city was used to move debris around at the scene in order to make certain nobody was inside, White said.

Officials investigated the scene Sunday, however a cause has not yet been determined.

White said items such as mattresses and furniture were stored inside the building.

White did not know an estimated cost of damage.

Earle's Chapel Volunteer Fire Department assisted JFD at

the scene.
