City Council holds special meeting for housing project

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville City Council met in a special session Tuesday for an agenda item concerning affordable housing.

According to City Manager Mo Raissi, the council approved a resolution of support for the Jacksonville Economic Development Corporation to loan $104,400 to a group planning to build 48 townhomes at a location on Hwy. 175.

Raissi said the group needed to have the item considered before a deadline on Friday, thus the special meeting.

The loan is for 15 years and has a 3-percent interest rate. The resolution was approved unanimously, with the exception of Councilman Hubert Robinson, who was not in attendance.

The Commonwealth group hopes to have approval from the Texas Department of Housing this summer, Raissi said. The new housing project will be called Mission Village of Jacksonville.
