SHREVEPORT, La. —  The National Weather Service in Shreveport, La. issued a Hard Freeze Warning at 7:43 p.m. Sunday night for an area that includes Cherokee and all surrounding counties.

The warning will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday morning as extremely cold air will continue to make its way into the region this evening after the passage of a cold front on Sunday.

Lows are expected to be in the mid-to-high teens, to near 20 degrees across the area overnight.

An extended period of well below freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes and pose a threat to sensitive vegetation and livestock.

These frigid conditions are also potentially hazardous to people and pets who are vulnerable to the cold.

These sub-freezing temperatures will also kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

Those that must be outdoors during this period are advised to bundle up accordingly.

Record lows could be set overnight.
