Superintendent Dale Morton of Wells ISD confirmed Monday the pending purchase of a building and two city lots at the corner of 4th and Bonita streets in Wells.
The building formerly housed the Church of Wells, according to Morton. It is unknown where the church is now housed.

Once the sale is complete, the site will become a school parking lot, with hopes of having the building demolished by Feb. 1, Morton said.
"This property is adjacent to the school campus," Morton said in a press release. "We were notified by community members that this property was available for purchase."
The owner reportedly resides in Houston, and Morton said the final paperwork is in transition for the official purchase of
He added that he cannot release the price paid for the property until the transaction is complete.
Morton said the decision to purchase the property for additional parking was made after a review of security and emergency operations in 2013 with the community and count and regional emergency agencies.
The current construction project of about 43,000-square-feet of facilities is being built on property that was formerly the school's parking area. At the conclusion of the construction, parking lots will extend the length of the new building on U.S. Hwy. 69 and will wrap around the north end of
The new purchase will become a new parking area for staff on the elementary campus, Morton said.
As of Monday morning, final closing on the deal remained in progress and is expected to take a couple more days.
"Our costs have been paid to the title company. I understand that release of funds and recording of deed will complete the sale upon receipt of closing documents from the seller," Morton said.
