Chamber Chatter: Member spotlight, upcoming events

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce welcomes the Jacksonville Soccer Association as its newest member.

- Chamber officials also invite everyone to take part in the new Business After Hours "Soap Box!" The "Soap Box" is an opportunity for those attending to share what's happening at their business and as a bonus they have an opportunity to win additional money and market themselves or their business.

Business After Hours takes place once a month in a location designated by a sponsor company. It is a relationship building experience held in a relaxed setting that allows for added contacts and resources.

Contact Mary Lou Taylor, Business After Hours chairwoman, at (903) 721-2166 or the Chamber of Commerce at (903) 586-2217 for more information.

- The "Board Member Spotlight" shines this week on Byron Underwood. Underwood is a Chamber of Commerce board member who retires in December 2015. He is a member of the mighty fine class of '79. Underwood is the county commissioner and operates a plant and hay farm in New Summerfield.

- The Cherokee County Hay Show Scholarship is a minimum of two $1,000 scholarships awarded to graduating seniors. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 17.

The student must be an FFA or 4H member. Call Aaron Low at (903) 683-5416 or arlow@ag.tamu.edu for more information.

- Chamber member Harry's Building Materials has a new website! Visit www.hbmitx.com to check it out!
