Officials serve warrants, arrest several

CHEROKEE COUNTY — Several arrests were made Tuesday in Cherokee County with the help of other law enforcement agencies, according to a news release.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of Federal Bureau of Investigation, Jacksonville Police Department, Rusk Police Department and Pct. 4 Constable Jamie Beene, served a narcotic search warrant at a residence in the Pierce's Chapel community.

Upon executing the warrant – signed by District Judge Bascom Bentley – five people were located inside the residence.

Officers seized methamphetamine and various narcotic paraphernalia at the location. The five people arrested are charged with possession of a substance in penalty Group 1, a felony 3 offense. They included:

– Joshua Heard, 22;    

– Heath Willis, 19;

– Rachelle Still, 37;

– Ariel Coslett-Starkey, 20; and

– Latajia Crockett, 17.

All subjects were arraigned by Cherokee County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Judge Brenda Dominy, with a bond set at $15,000 for each.  All five remained in the Cherokee County Jail on Thursday afternoon.

Also on Tuesday, officers arrested four of seven people indicted Feb. 26 by a federal grand jury.

The remaining three were already incarcerated in the Cherokee County Jail at the time and subsequently served the with a federal arrest warrant.

Officers from the sheriff's department, Jacksonville Police Department, the FBI and Rusk Police Department made the arrests.

The indictment resulted from a lengthy investigation by the FBI, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and JPD.  

The defendants on the Federal indictment are:

– Eric Scott Smart, 30;

– Steven Ray Davis, 42;

– Michael Wayne Christopher, 52;

– Jimmy Royce Stafford, aka “Jimmy Loven,” 28;

– Karl Dwayne Underwood, 23;

– Jimmie Chance Guillen, 23; and

– Darren Michael Massey, 20

Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing photos of the federal defendants at this time.

At the time of the federal arrests, three state-level search warrants were prepared and presented to District Judge Bascom Bentley. The warrants yielded more than 100 grams of methamphetamine, numerous firearms and cash seizures.  

During the warrant round-up, two additional people were arrested on state-level charges. The were:

– Xavier Lang, 22, unlawful possession of firearm by a felon, Felony 3, released on $15,000 bond; and

– Rachel Myers, 17, possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor C, released after paying $307 fine.

Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Judge Brenda Dominy arraigned both individuals.
