Blaze destroys Jacksonville home

JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville Fire Department responded to a house fire in the early morning hours Saturday.

A home at the corner of Griffin and Crockett  streets was found engulfed in flames just before 4 a.m., JFD Chief Paul White said.

“It started in a back bedroom, but because the fire gutted the room so bad, we're not sure how it started,” White said. He added that officials believe the fire to be accidental.

Four people were inside the home at the time of the fire, and they all escaped without harm, White said.

“They smelled smoke and got out,” he said.

It took fire crews about 20 minutes to get the blaze under control. A home next to the residence was scorched during the fire, according

to White.
