RUSK — Children's author and East Texas resident Christie Joy discussed her book “Pet Fairy” with children at Jacksonville's Kids First program on Tuesday, describing how the “story came so fast,” she “wrote it on a napkin.” Joy, a graduate of Texas Tech University, released her book earlier this year. An avowed animal lover, she served as director of education for the East Texas SPCA in 2010 and has worked with various animal rescue groups. Kids First director Holly Yount said she wanted to bring book authors to the campus so that the children would see that “real people write these books.” Joy read her work to the children, then engaged in activities with them.
