Explosive Fourth

JACKSONVILLE — Hunter Byrd, 8, and his four-year-old sister MaKayla check out the stash of fireworks Tuesday at TNT Fireworks, outside Jacksonville city limits on U.S. Highway 69 South, as their mom, Tiffany Kendrick, monitors their activity. It's the first year their grandmother, Trish Egbert of Reklaw, (hidden) has sponsored a fireworks display at her home for the children, who are from Jefferson.

TNT Fireworks owner Mike Green pulls a firework order Tuesday for Trish Egbert of Reklaw, who purchased the holiday delights for her grandchildren Hunter, 8, and MaKayla Byrd, 4, of Jefferson. Green, a former circulation manager for the Jacksonville Daily Progress, said he purchased the business 30 years ago from the Civitan Club, which operated the Highway 69 South stand for a few years before deciding to get out of the business. Green urged revelers to practice caution while using fireworks, because “it can be dangerous – you have to be cautious of what you're doing and of what your surroundings are.”
