NEW SUMMERFIELD —

Business was booming for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department Sunday night on State Highway 110, just south of the New Summerfield city limits.

About 8:45 p.m. a motorist ran into a tree that was down and partially blocking the roadway.

While a deputy was working this crash site and waiting on a wrecker to remove the vehicle and Department of Public Safety officials to handle the fallen tree clean up, a vehicle passed through the scene that was driven by a driver who was found to be driving while intoxicated.

As officials continue to work to fully return the roadway to its normal state in this area, motorists are urged to slow down and use caution.
