JACKSONVILLE — The Jacksonville ISD Board is preparing to take bids on the new West Side Elementary School and construction at Nichols Intermediate.

In a meeting Monday, board members decided to begin advertising for bids in late April, according to JISD Superintendent Joe Wardell. The school will also host local sub-contractor fairs on April 29 and May 5. Wardell said anyone seeking more information may contact his office at 903-586-6511.

Bidding is open until May 16. Wardell said the school's goal is to present a winning bid to the board shortly after June 1.

In other action, new band uniforms were approved. Wardell said it has been about 10 years since students had new uniforms.

“The band has grown, and it was definitely time,” he said.

Wardell said the

uniforms will resemble the style used before the current uniforms worn by band members.

The board also approved a new strategic plan for the district, which Wardell said includes five long-term goals that constitute a “good plan.” Details on the plan were not available as of press time.

Wardell also said Julianna Peacock, president of the Jacksonville Education Foundation, did a “good job” presenting information from the organization to the trustees.

All action items on the district's agenda were approved, Wardell said.

They included:

– Adopting the TASB local policy update;

– Adopting amendments to EIF (Local) policy reflecting changes in graduation requirements in compliance with House Bill 5; and,

– The re-certification of Wardell as district representative to the Region VII Advisory Council for 2014-15.
