Attorney General candidate makes Jacksonville stop

JACKSONVILLE — Sam Houston, a Democratic candidate running for state Attorney General in the November general election, shares a bit of background with the dozen attendees at Wednesday's meet-and-greet in Jacksonville.

Houston, who has practiced law for more than two decades, told the group he believed “the ideals of our party are important, because everybody counts.”

Incoming Cherokee County Democratic party club chairman Craig Caldwell said he was interested in what the candidate had to say. “Used to be that when Sam Houston spoke, they listened,” he said, alluding to the historic Texas politician with the same name. “Maybe they'll do that now.”

Caldwell added he was looking forward to learning what the candidate's view on the traditional role of the attorney general's office, “because issues (handled by that office) are nonpartisan issues.”

Houston was visiting East Texas this week, and was scheduled to go to Palestine after stopping in Jacksonville.
