Area colleges slate graduation ceremonies

CHEROKEE COUNTY — Area colleges and seminaries will hold graduation ceremonies in upcoming weeks, including:

• River of Life School of Ministry – Ray Popham will be the guest speaker at a 7 p.m. ceremony, held Thursday at the missions school, located at 677 S. Dickinson in Rusk.

•  Jacksonville College – On May 9, graduation rehearsal will be held at 10 a.m. in the college gymnasium; the commencement ceremony takes place at 7:30 p.m., also in the gymnasium. Richard W. Smith, who sits on the college’s board of trustees, is this year's speaker. A reception at the JC cafeteria will follow commencement ceremonies.

• The University of Texas at Tyler – Spring commencement ceremonies will be held May 9-10 at the school's R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center.  

East Texas Symphony Orchestra director and conductor Richard Lee will deliver the keynote address at the 3 p.m. May 9  College of Nursing and Health Sciences commencement, as well as the 6 p.m. May 9 College of Arts and Sciences ceremony.

On May 10, Dr. Howard Y. Patterson – UT Tyler vice president for student affairs – will address a 10 a.m. College of Business and Technology ceremony, as well as a 1 p.m. ceremony for the Colleges of Education and Psychology and Engineering and Computer Science.

• The Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary – Commencement exercises will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in Dorman Memorial Chapel.

Dr. Scott Attebery, executive director of DiscipleGuide Church Resources for the Baptist Missionary Association of America, will deliver the commencement address.
