The state fire marshal's office has been called in to help investigate a devastating early Tuesday fire that completely destroyed a North Jacksonville residence — tying firefighters up for hours — but is not believed to have injured anyone, authorities said.
Jacksonville firefighters were on the scene of the 3 a.m. blaze in the 1600 block of North Quevado Street between four and eight hours in an attempt to keep the fire from spreading, according to initial reports. The destruction was total, and fire department investigators continued their investigation into the incident Tuesday. Roughly nine firefighters fought the blaze using gallons upon gallons of water — so much that neighbors reported to authorities their house was being flooded. This is the second fire along Quevado Street in a week, reports show.
Jacksonville City Manager Mo Raissi said Tuesday evening that the state fire marshal's office is sending someone to help in the investigation. That person is expected Wednesday.
