Actress and Rusk native Kay “Baby” Epperson of Rusk keeps a group of Cherokee County Retired School Personnel laughing Tuesday with stories about working on the set of “Bernie,” a movie based on true events surrounding former Carthage assistant funeral director Bernie Tiede II, who was the center of a controversial court case in the early 1990s. Epperson, the guest speaker at the group's January gathering at the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, described working on a movie set, being a hair-dresser for Elvis (who would have turned 78 Tuesday) and how she got her nickname: As a child, she spent a lot of time in the family's restaurant and her grandfather would instruct her to greet the customers. “He'd tell me to say 'Hi,' and when I told them 'Hi,' they'd say 'Hi, Kay Baby,'” she laughed. Epperson is next slated to appear in a movie featuring Nicolas Cage.
