Jacksonville tops Mississippi town for tomato bragging rights

JACKSONVILLE — On Tuesdsay, members of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and friends faced-off against a team of tomato-lovers from Crystal Springs, Miss, to see who has the best tomatoes.

The battle was broadcast and hosted by KTBS TV station in Shreveport. The categories for testing included: 1) Largest Tomato, 2) Best Plate of 3 and 3) Best Tasting Tomato. Each town provided a judge and KTBS provided additional judges.

Attending the event as the Jacksonville judge was Cherokee County Judge Chris Davis.

Davis said he loves tomatoes, and he enjoyed being a judge.

When the juices stopped dripping off the judges’ chins, and the votes were in – Jacksonville was given top honors!

The award comes just in time for this year’s 30th Annual Tomato Fest, set for most of the day Saturday, June 14, in downtown Jacksonville.
