The District Cherokee Women Missionary Auxiliary met Tuesday, Jan. 17 at New Salem Baptist Church. Supper consisted of a baked potato supper with all the trimmings, desserts and drinks.

The meeting was called to order by President, Alicia Johnson. She led the group in the WMA motto II Peter 1:5-7. Mrs. Sherman led the group in prayer. Judy Foster and Sylvia Davis led the group in singing the WMA theme song, “Reaching Out in Service.”

Business was conducted; acknowledgement of thanks was given by Dr. Holmes after the WMA donated $75 toward Shirish Kasab’s airline ticket, noting that Shirish had a safe trip back home. Cherokee District WMA cookbooks are still available for sale. Enterprise Baptist Church will be reviewing the WMA scrapbooks for the next quarter. A sympathy card was signed by the ladies of the WMA to give to Anita Small, Third Vice-President, along with a love offering to express their regrets for the loss of her husband, Harold Small.

Paula Moore, First Vice-President, encouraged the ladies in recruiting more ladies to join their WMA circles. Her recommendation was to recruit one or two ladies at a time.

Even though the WMA annual theme is ‘A Year of Worship and Praise,’ Cindy Allen, Second Vice-President, led the group in two songs; “This is the Day” and “Jesus Loves Me,” as there were two young ones present in the audience. She announced that a visitor from the East would be making an appearance for the evening program. Three more congregational songs were sung; “Thank You Lord,” “Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us” and “To God Be the Glory.”

The visitor from the East, the Samaritan woman, was portrayed by Cindy Allen. She recited the story of the Samaritan woman meeting Jesus by the well. Dressed in authentic costume and carrying an old relic water jug, her performance truly made one feel as though they were present at the actual scene.

A total of 63 ladies, pastors, and visitors were present.

Project money raised that evening totaled $244, thus bringing the total project money up to $1,122.14.

Sardis Baptist Church won the attendance banner.

The next District WMA meeting will be held at Mount Selman on Tuesday, April 11. Supper will be provided at 6 p.m.
