A number of Cherokee County offices and businesses will be closed in observance of the New Year's Day holiday.
They include the Cherokee County government offices, as well as municipal offices in Jacksonville, Alto, Bullard, Cuney Reklaw, Rusk, New Summerfield, Troup and Wells.
Most financial institutions, along with the U.S. Postal Service, will be closed Wednesday, as are the Jacksonville Progress offices.
Meanwhile, the Republic Waste Services trash pickup scheduled on New Year's Day will be collected one day later, with other services operating on regular schedule.
The Clothes Closet & More, located at 314 S. Main St. in Jacksonville, will re-open on Jan. 2 for regularly scheduled hours. The ministry also will be closed Jan. 12-21, said director Mickey Gear.
Jacksonville's H.O.P.E. Center – at 595 S. Ragsdale St. – is closed through Jan. 5, and will re-open Jan. 6, said director Ellann Lewis-Johnson.
Area students in public and private schools return to class beginning Jan. 7.
Staff at the BMA Theological Seminary in Jacksonville will return on Jan. 2, with registration slated from Jan. 6-10 at the seminary, and classes beginning on Jan. 27.
A Jacksonville College, registration for the regular semester will be held Jan. 9-10, with classes beginning at 8 a.m Monday, Jan. 13.
