Several different organizations will be sponsoring back-to-school events in Cherokee County this month, offering students supplies and backpacks, and fun and games, too.
Troup's Clearview Church will host a Back-2-School Bash, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at its 102 S. Alma St. location, for students in grades K-5.
The event features a puppet show, games, prizes, refreshments, school supplies, drawings and gift cards, for which parents must register to win, according to event organizers. To register, parents must text their name, address, email and information about their child (name, age and gender) to 903-705-8878.
On Aug. 12, The Tree of Promise will hold its annual back-to-school fair in Rusk, from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Rusk Civic Center, 555 Euclid St..
The ministry has been hosting an ongoing school supply drive to meet a goal of filling 500 backpacks filled with supplies for students through eighth grade. Rusk ISD families must provide proof of residency to receive the supplies, according to organizers.
Meanwhile, donations for supplies, as well as volunteer help to hand out those supplies, are still being sought. Individuals may call 903-683-0414 or email email@example.com to learn more.
A second event in Rusk is a back-to-school bash hosted by the 110 Riders and Mike Cook Jr., from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at Irvin Conley Park, 208 Reeder Rd. The event features balloon fights and a water slide, horse rides, music, basketball, refreshments and a bounce house. While supplies last, the organization will also be giving away 50 free backpacks filled with school supplies. To learn more or to donate, call 903-339-5736 or 832-807-7338.
