JACKSONVILLE – Central Baptist Church will host the [un]Apologetic Evangelism Conference on Saturday, Aug. 24. This day-long event, part of Texas Baptists’ Apologetics 101 ministry, will feature seven sessions of information about answering the tough questions about why we believe what we do. You can register either at the church's Welcome Center, in the church office, or online at cbcjax.net then follow the link to the conference page. Registration is $45 for adults and $35 for students. Doors open at 7 a.m. for registration, with the first general session beginning at 8 a.m. Lunch will be on your own.
The conference will feature J. Warner “Jim” Wallace, a Dateline-featured cold-case homicide detective, popular national speaker and best-selling author. He continues to consult on cold-case investigations while serving as a Senior Fellow at the Colson Center for Christian Worldview. He will present “How to Develop a Forensic Faith”: Learn to define the notion of faith and develop a “training” model to become better Christian Case Makers. Why are so many young people walking away from the Church? What can we do about it? Understand the issues we are facing and learn a strategy to become a more devoted follower of Jesus.
Nancy Pearcey is the author of the recently released “Love Thy Body: Answering Hard Questions about Life and Sexuality.” She is professor and scholar in residence at Houston Baptist University and editor-at-large of the Pearcey Report. A former agnostic, Pearcey has spoken at universities such as Princeton, Stanford, USC and Dartmouth. She takes on the headline issues of our day: Abortion, assisted suicide, homosexuality, transgenderism and more.
We often treat these issues separately, but Pearcey shows that we will be much more effective if we realize they all rest on a radically dehumanizing secular worldview that denigrates the body and demeans the person. By contrast, she shows how to craft the biblical ethic in a way that is more positive and more appealing than the secular ethic.
Dr. Jerry Johnston is a speaker, author, teacher, Transmedia Consultant and Director of the Christian Thinkers Society (CTS). He has traveled more than 200,000 miles internationally conducting five-years of original research on what TIME magazine refers to as “one of the 10 most significant trends changing America.”
The Johnstons filmed interviews with 106 of the world’s leading atheists, agnostics, skeptics, philosophers, sociologists, statisticians, nones, deconversions, apologists and Christian leaders to discover both the causes and cures of religious disaffiliation. This message is crucial for concerned Christians and pastors to hear and video clips that are must see!
Parallel sessions include “The Apologetic Pulpit” by Dr. Mike Miller; “Is Christianity the White Man’s Religion” by Tim Fuller; “Does the Soul Exist” by Eric Hernandez; and a special Spanish track: “La existencia de Dios y el Jesús histórico” and “Como responder hermenéuticamente a los pasajes problemáticos” by Marlon Rios. Each parallel session features information attendees can begin using immediately to share and defend Christianity.
The conference will end with a question and answer time featuring Eric Hernandez, Jerry Johnston, Jim Wallace and Nancy Pearcy.
