Hay samples are now being accepted through Sept. 9, at the Cherokee County Extension Office (Courthouse Annex – Rusk), Farm & Ranch Feed (Jacksonville), Tri-County Livestock Market (New Summerfield), Steele’s Feed & Seed (Troup), and Hick’s Farm and Ranch (Alto).
This is a great opportunity for Cherokee County hay producers to have their hay tested for free. Hay will be forage tested, which provides information on crude protein, and estimates of TDN for producers.
There is no charge for the testing, however hay must be produced within the county to be eligible for testing. Again, we ask for either a square bale or a trash bag full of hay; to ensure appropriate amounts for testing and the auction benefitting the Scholarship Fund.
Testing results will be given during the Annual Hay Show & Sale. The Grand Champion and Reserve Champion hay will be awarded and auctioned off along with other top graded hay during this event.
The Annual Hay Show & Sale has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 22 at the Cherokee County Exposition Center on Loop 456 in Jacksonville. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. with the auction immediately after. All proceeds from the auction go to the Hay Show scholarship fund, which to date has awarded over $170,000 to our local youth.
The Hay Show Co-Chairmen are Wayne Berry and Ardy Tiner.
