The City of Jacksonville has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This award represents significant achievement and commitment of the City Council and staff to the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
To receive this award, Jacksonville satisfied nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation; guidelines which asses how well a budget serves as a (a) policy document, (b) financial plan, (c) operations guide, and (d) communications device.
The GFOA will also present a Certificate of recognition to Finance Director Roxanna Briley. “Each year City Staff spends significant time carefully planning and preparing a budget to present to the City Council.” Briley says, “Preparation requires a great deal of thought in how to deliver services to the citizens of Jacksonville that meet the City Council’s goals while at the same time considering financial constraints. Participation in the Government Finance Officers Association distinguished budget presentation awards program is the final step in the budget process. Receiving this award is an honor and reflects City Council’s and City Staff’s commitment to excellence in quality of budgeting and fiscal responsibility.”
This is an honor to receive this award for the third year in a row.” Says City Manager Greg Smith, “Our finance department has worked diligently to earn this honor. Roxanna is dedicated and works tirelessly to provide the public with information on the city’s financial wellbeing. We earned our first Transparency Star earlier this year from the Texas Comptroller’s Office and, this is another achievement of the highest finance standards.”
According to the GFOA’s website, Jacksonville is the only municipality in Cherokee County, and one of just 45 in the Sate of Texas to receive this award since fiscal year 2018.
