A Coats for Kids distribution event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at at 597 S. Ragsdale St. in Jacksonville, formerly home to Marie's Christian Book and Gifts, and now part of The HOPE Center Complex. Coats and other cold-weather gear of all sizes will be provided free of charge to those in need, said event organizer Mickey Gear of The Clothes Closet & More ministry. Meanwhile, the ministry accepts gently used items throughout the year at its 314 S. Main St. location in Jacksonville.

- An annual fundraiser hosted by area churches on Sunday will benefit The H.O.P.E. Center.

This year's Empty Bowl soup luncheon is slated from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at Central Baptist Church.

A dozen or more churches provide a variety of homemade soups, with bread, beverages and dessert included. Tickets are $10 per person or $30 per family. In addition, a dessert auction also will be held.

The H.O.P.E. Center is an enrichment program that helps those in need living in Cherokee County.
