CCCS president John Hawkins recently presents a $400 check in support of County Roads Rescues efforts to rescue unwanted animals in Cherokee County. With him is Dava Cooley Cook, who organizes the rescue shelter in Jacksonville. In recent weeks, a local business woman purchased a former animal shelter on Woodlawn Avenue once used by the city, and has leased it to the group, allowing a more central location and the ability to streamline its efforts. The local Crime Stoppers group also gifted $400 to the Jacksonville Animal Shelter, which deals with strays inside city limits.
