SHREVEPORT, La. — The National Weather Service in Shreveport, La. has issued a Heat Advisory for a large cluster of East Texas counties, including Cherokee, that will be in effect from 12 noon until 7 p.m. Friday.
Temperatures will be in the mid 90's, and coupled with the humidity, the heat index readings are expected to be in the 104-108 degree range from early afternoon to early evening.
The advisory also covers parts of southeast Oklahoma, southern Arkansas and northern Louisiana.
Ways to stay safe during periods of intense heat include drinking plenty of liquids (non alcoholic), regardless of activity level, and limit sun exposure by scheduling outdoor activities for early in the morning or late in the evening.
Check on those suffering from chronic illnesses and the elderly. Also remember to provide a cool spot with plenty of fresh water for pets.
