JHS students participate in ‘Fish Camp’

Members of Jacksonville High School’s Student Council take charge of this year’s “Fish Camp,” a half-day introductory camp for incoming freshmen at the local high school. According to Student Council advisor Jasmine El-Moatassem, this year’s event was staged differently, in which smaller groups of students were shown around the campus and given an opportunity to learn about different aspects of student life at JHS. “We wanted them to break out of their shells and meet new people” as they participated in the camp, she said. While area students start their new school year as early as next week, Jacksonville ISD’s new school year begins Aug. 28.
